How do companies like Google,Yahoo,Orkut make money?
Advertisements are the main source.

Reply:The main source of making money is through ads only. You can see a link in many websites named " Google ads". That companies will pay to google.Google decided to put ads in orkut from March 08.

Reply:they lend the space for companies to put their banners for advertisement. the more the people browsing the more the companies pay for the hosting websites.and this is advertisement
Reply:the backbone is advertisement but there are no straight ads placed on orkut. There is an option to advertise there thought the ads are linked to google ad-sense program!!
Reply:google makes money from selling words, for example shoes, they have this word for bidding and companies like adidas,nike,reebok etc bid for this word so that their name comes right on top when the word 'shoes' is searched....imagine the number of words we have for sale....lots of money to make....
orkut had this 'upload a pic' and i get money thing, who know what they do with the pic we upload ????
