What are the positive and negative points of using orkut?

Well, one could look at this as a positive OR a negative, but for starters, you don't have the option to tweak your profile page with all kinds of nifty backgrounds like you can with sites like MySpace.

I consider that a positive because some people's over-the-top MySpace designs really make me feel inadequate. lol

Another positive is that you can load several hundreds of photos now and can seemingly have thousands of scrap entries without ever having to delete any (....unless of course, you WANT to).

If you're a protective parent, it might not please you to know that age isn't really verified outside of the applicant's word. This means that, as long as a kid knows how to enter a false date of birth to make them at least 18 years of age, that kid can establish his/her own Orkut account.

Another advantage with Orkut over MySpace is that your photo captions can be a LOT longer. You have very little room to enter a MySpace photo caption, but with Orkut, you can type more.

It's also easier to upload photos from YouTube to your account if you're using Orkut. One possible disadvantage for users in the United States is that Orkut really hasn't caught on all that much yet. It's far more popular in other countries like the U.K. and Brazil, so an American user might not find a lot lot of his/her friends on Orkut.

You can also set your Orkut to give you a list of people who have recently visited your profile and, recently, they added a function that shows you which of your friends has recently added pictures or videos.

You can start your own personal communities in Orkut and the amount of friends you can stockpile is seemingly unlimited. Orkut also has a testimonials section where people can write whatever they want about you and the kind of person they think you are. You can keep and/or delete whatever testimonials you receive.

Hope this helps.
